Project Overview
The Port Augusta Renewable Energy Park (PAREP) is a combined wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) hybrid project. It is one of the new breed of renewable projects designed to provide predictable power more uniformly across the day and when complete will be one of the southern hemisphere’s largest hybrid renewable power stations.
Located approximately 8 km south-east of Port Augusta in South Australia, the project will occupy approximately 5,400 hectares of land running from Port Paterson in the north, to Winninowie in the south and span the A1 Augusta Highway.
PAREP is 100% owned by Iberdrola Renewables Australia (Iberdrola) with support from DP Energy who is the original developer of the site.
It will comprise of 50 wind turbines and 250,000 solar modules together with associated infrastructure, to produce a total installed capacity of almost 320 megawatts (MW) of clean renewable energy. A new 275kV substation and export cable will connect the project into the South Australian transmission network via Davenport substation. Once in commercial operation, PAREP will generate clean electricity for around 25 years prior to being either decommissioned or redeveloped.

Project Benefits
Clean Energy
The project will produce 900 gigawatt hours (GWh) per annum which is enough to power around 180,000 households each year with an emissions saving of approximately 400,000 metric tonnes of CO2 annually.
Employment
The 18 month construction and commissioning schedule will create 200 jobs. During the operational phase the project is expected to employ 20 personnel on a full time basis.
AIP Plan
The project has an approved Australian Industry Participation Plan (AIP Plan) which promotes engagement with Australian suppliers.
Installed Capacity
Wind
Wind is divided across 50 wind turbines. Each Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) has a hub height of 107m and a max. tip height of 185m.
Solar
Solar is divided across two PV fields and consists of ca. 250,000 panels.
